Matching Gifts

Employee matching gifts are a wonderful way for donors to maximize their charitable gifts by having their employer match their donation!  Check to find out if your employer will match your donation by calling your Human Resources Department. Click here for a list of some companies that have employee matching programs.

Gifts of Stock

Donors can make gifts of publicly traded, appreciated securities to First Command Educational Foundation that could create outstanding gift and tax benefits for you:

  • FCEF can receive a significant, valuable gift to support its mission.
  • The donor may be able to make a larger gift than by simply writing a check.
  • There would generally be no tax on the capital gain in the stock’s value.
  • The donor may claim a substantial charitable deduction for federal income tax purposes for the cost of the stock plus its capital appreciation.

In general, the donor should own the appreciated security for more than a year.  A stock gift to FCEF may generate a charitable tax deduction for up to 30% of the donor’s adjusted gross income in the year of the gift; the unused portion of the deduction may be carried forward to apply against the donor’s income for up to five years.  Please contact Christina Judge for any questions.

This information is not intended as legal or financial advice.  Donors should consult with their accountants and financial advisors to assure that gifts of stock suit their financial plans and are in line with current state and federal tax laws regarding charitable gifts.
