Volunteer Opportunities
From “The Great Society” to “1000 Points of Light” to the AmeriCorp, our nation has a long tradition of volunteerism. There are two very important reasons that this tradition is fostered in America, and why First Command Educational Foundation considers our volunteers to be vital to the success of our mission.
- Economic: Activities undertaken by volunteers would otherwise have to be funded by First Command Educational Foundation.
- Social: Volunteering helps to build more cohesive communities, fostering greater trust between citizens. The promotion of financial literacy bind the members of a community together to build wealth, to fight social blight like bankruptcy, and to better understand the wise use of credit.
First Command Educational Foundation currently uses 41 certified volunteer speakers from across the nation. Some have been with us since 2001, when the three-day certification process was initiated, and new groups are certified once a year. Our volunteers have dedicated hundreds of hours to helping consumers to manage money effectively, reduce or eliminate excessive debt, prevent bankruptcy, and build successful financial futures.
With our latest certification, the Speakers now represent more than 800 years combined public speaking experience. Former financial advisors, teachers, military careerists and social workers, our volunteers come from many walks of life.
They are the backbone of our organization. They give many hours to improve the social fabric of our nation.
According to Wikipedia, volunteerism is giving of your time to make other people’s lives easier, safer and more secure. It may be done for altruistic reasons, as in charity or community service, as a hobby, or as a vocation. If you feel that you might be ready to volunteer as a Foundation speaker, and if you are willing to complete the certification process, learn the presentations and fulfill speaking assignments, we welcome your interest.
