The purpose of a savings account
Help you avoid the unnecessary use of credit by making cash purchases--to accumulate money for emergencies and other short-term needs. A sound savings program is a good way to learn to pay your self first.
Pay yourself first
Make a deposit in your savings account by government allotment so that it goes in before you pay your bills or spend it.

The best way to save is through payroll savings. Start a government allotment to your savings account. Or, if your pay is deposited directly with your bank, ask your bank to transfer an amount each month into a savings account. If these choices aren't available, an automatic bank draft can be used. The lesson is: automate the payment.
